New Testament Outline: Luke 19-21

Luke 19 — Jesus enters Jericho and there a short tax collector named Zacchaeus climbs a tree to see Jesus. Jesus says that he must stay at his house. Jesus tells the parable of the ten minas. He and his disciples go up to Jerusalem and as they’re going in many people shout in triumph as Jesus enters Jerusalem. Jesus laments and weeps over Jerusalem because so many people have rejected him. He enters the temple and drives out those who are perverting what it stands for.

Luke 20 — As Jesus is teaching in the temple his authority is challenged by the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders. Jesus responds by asking them about the baptism of John. He then tells the parable of the wicked tenants. The scribes and the chief priests are trying to arrest Jesus to they lay a trap for him by asking about paying taxes to Caesar. The Sadducees come to Jesus asking him about the resurrection even though they don’t believe in it. Jesus warns those listening to beware of the scribes.

Luke 21 — Jesus sees a widow giving all that she has to give to the temple. He then foretells the destruction of the temple as well as impending persecution, which includes the destruction of Jerusalem and the coming of the Son of Man. Jesus tells them the parable of the fig tree. He then reminds his hearers to stay awake.
