New Testament Outline: Matthew 1-4

Matthew 1 — The genealogy of Jesus beginning from Abraham through David, the deportation, to Joseph and Mary. Mary conceives by the Holy Spirit. Jesus is born.

Matthew 2 — The wise men visit to worship baby Jesus. Joseph and Mary flee with Jesus to Egypt to escape Herod. Herod dies and they return, but to Nazareth.

Matthew 3 — John the Baptist begins calling for repentance and announcing the kingdom of God. John baptizes Jesus. The Holy Spirit rests on Jesus and the Father announces his pleasure in Jesus.

Matthew 4 — Jesus is led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. Three temptations come to Jesus but he remains. John the Baptist is arrested and Jesus calls his first disciples. Jesus begins teaching, preaching, and healing, and many come to him.
